Randolph Rec Wrestling placed nine wrestlers in the USAW-NJ State Championship tournament, and three took home all-state honors, this past weekend at the Sun Bank Center in Trenton. It was a fitting finale to a season in which the Rams wrestlers took home 42 individual medals in four league tournaments.
Fifth grader Jason Petroski took 3rd place in the state at the Novice-90 lb weight class. Seventh grader David turner took 5th place at Intermediate-112 lbs., to medal for the second consecutive year. And eighth grader Kris Charles capped his final middle school year with an 8th place finish at Intermediate-160 lbs. Six other wrestlers reached the state championships by qualifying at regional tournaments across the state: Jack Abramson, Cole Carroll, Jesse DiNegri, John Hager, Alex Silva, and Sander Silva.
Other major accomplishments this year included:
13 placewinners in the Tri County league championship tournament, including one champion, David Turner, and two runners-up, John Hager and Cole Carroll.
Five placewinners in the Grade School League championship, representing middle school wrestlers from almost half of the state. Carroll took first at his weight, while Hager and Turner were runners up.
Seven placewinners in the North West Jersey league tournament, led by Connor Glory who took the top spot at his weight.
17 up-and-coming wrestlers placed in the novice and JV tournaments of the four leagues in which Randolph participates.
The Rams enter the off-season poised for continued success in the 2017-18 season, when they will be returning all but four of their Tri-County league placewinners. Registration for the new season will begin in September; the season opens mid-November.
