If you've been checking in on the calendar page because you're looking forward to the upcoming season, you might have noticed matches are starting to show up. So, here is an update on how the match schedule is developing as we work our way into the fall.
Everything on the calendar is still tentative. There is generally a lot of scheduling activity in October, so many of the league matches will probably change. But, so far:
Based on a combination of the football season, and when we think the gym may be ready, we are currently planning to begin practice the week of November 14th. The competitive season will open with the annual Randolph Thanksgiving Team Tournament, on Sunday, November 27 at RHS. We also have a date for the annual Rivals Takedown Hunger event with Roxbury: Wednesday, February 1 at Roxbury High School.
The Northwest Jersey League got the jump on the other leagues, and posted their first draft schedule for the season recently. Those dates are on the calendar now. However, many of the matches are scheduled late in the season, so it is likely there will be changes to help spread the matches out more evenly.
The Grade School League generally posts their master schedule in August or September. Although specific dates and locations are to be determined, the season will likely start on December 3 or 4, and will follow the same pattern as in past years: three weeks of quad meets, three weeks of tri meets, and two weeks of duals for a total of 17 matches.
The Tri-County and King of the Mat leagues will be scheduled last. Typically coaches negotiate matches during the month October. We expect many of the Tri-County matches will be weeknight dual meets as in prior seasons. King of the Mat jamborees will be Saturdays at 9:00 for novices and 11:00 for JV wrestlers.
Last, there are several tournament dates that have already been set, including Roxbury Rumble, Mt. Olive, and the league championship tournaments.
We will continue to update the calendar as new dates and times develop. Look for a new news article when schedules have been finalized.
