A storied rivalry continued with a back-and forth meet that didn’t disappoint, but ultimately Randolph was unable to secure back-to-back victories over Roxbury in the Rivals Takedown Hunger meet at Roxbury High School.
The Rams appeared to be in a great position to win, holding on to a 24-24 tie after the first ten matches. But the Gaels put up 33 straight team points in the next five matches to seal the victory in front of a packed home gym.
Randolph got bonus-point wins from Elijah Quinones, Matt DeStefanis, and Derek Rooney.
Prior to the match, the Roxbury youth team took a collection of grocery and personal health items to benefit the Morris Interfaith Pantry, in support of their efforts to root out hunger in the community. The two teams alternate as hosts of the annual charity event, which features a trio of wrestling matches between the youth, high-school JV, and high-school varsity lineups.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 4-3 in the Tri-County league and 15-9 overall. Randolph continues its race to the finish with a quad meet at Paramus this Saturday.
